Why in the hexadecimal number system A,B,C,D,E and F symbols are used inplace of 10,11,12,13,14 and 15 ?

In base 10, the number 11, the left hand digit stands for 10 to the first power and the right hand digit is a counter. In hexadecimal that notation is meaningless so A-F are the additional counters needed to reach 16 which 16 to the first power. In Base 10, 11 is three ( 2 to the first power plus 1). In hexadecimal (base 16) F means 16 to the zero power which is 0ne taken 15 times. 10 in hex is sixteen
