The Himalayas are called young fold mountains as they are still growing unlike old fold mountains.

India is bounded by young fold mountains in the northwest, north and north east.South of about 22 degree North latitude,it begins to taper and extends towards the Indian Ocean, dividing it into two seas, the Arabian sea on the West and the Bay of Bengal in its east. They are also termed as young fold mountains as they are still young and now also growing in height and breadth. They are an important geological feature in India and helps in bringing rain to India and thus increasing rate of production of crops.
