Generally in your question there are two concepts of political science involved.

Firstly,Democratic which means that people are the key power behind the political institutions and ultimate power lies in there hand.

Secondly, Republic which in simple term means a country who’s head of the nation is elected by the people.

Since India has both above said concepts in its political system that’s why its called Democratic Republic.

England is Monrchy democracy because there the head of nation is not elected by the people.

India is called an republic democratic country because it provides it's citizens a set of rules and regulations where they have their fundamental rights.

India is a country whic treats every citizen equal inspite of the caste, religion, belief etc.

It provides it's citizen a set of rules also called as constitution which clearly governs the country.
