Why India is called as a secular country.

India is secular country as the world 'secular' was added in the preamble by the 42nd Amendment Act . Secularism means that -

* the state protects all religion equally.
*there is no discrimination based on one's religion
*individuals have the freedom to profess , practise and spread their respective religions.

Union of India established the fact that India was secular since the formation of the republic. The judgement established that there is separation of state and religion. It stated "In matters of State, religion has no place.
