Secularism in India means equal treatment of all religions by the state. With the 42nd Amendment of the Constitution of India enacted in 1976, the Preamble to the Constitution asserted that India is a secular nation. However, neither India's constitution nor its laws define the relationship between religion and state.

India is called a secular country beacuse all religions given equal respect as well as protection ,the state has no religion of its own, there is no dicrimination on the ground of religion , every citizen can change his religion with out any fear if he or she wants to, no riligion can press other religion, no body can be forced to adopt or obey any religion .
