2. predominance of agriculture
about two third of India's workforce is engaged in agriculture. the contribution of agriculture to National Income is about 19%. as against this the contribution of agriculture to the national income in most of the developed countries is between 2 to 9%.
3. capital deficiency.
the low level of income results in low level of saving sir which results in low level of capital formation. for want of capital other resources like labour and natural resources remain unutilized.
4. technological backwardness.
In large parts of almost all sectors of the Indian economy Technology used in production is backward. the expenditure incurred on research and development is low. advanced technology is in use in a few Industries only.
5. inadequate infrastructure facilities.
infrastructural facilities currently include power transport and Communications. they also affect the development of agriculture and service sector. all these facilities are inadequate.
6. high rate of growth of population.
India's population is very large (121 crores as per 2011 census) and it is raising at a rate of 1.84 per annum. since 1971 when the development process was which the birthdate had declined very slowly while the death rate declined faster.
7. high rate of illiteracy.
illiteracy rate is quite high. all the it has declined substantially since 1951 ,it is still very high. literacy rate in females is much higher than in males.
8. high infant mortality rate.
the number of deaths of infants of less than one year of age per thousand live birds in India is very high. this shows the inadequate medical facilities, low level of nutrition and poor sanitary conditions.
9. traditional Bond attitudes towards work and life.
the Indian society is divided into many caste and subcaste resulting in fractions in the society. the religious and social beliefs and Customs to certain extent inhabit the development of scientific attitudes.
10. joint family system.
joint family system obstructs mobility of labour families prefer to live together even if this may mean having a low level of Living. the nuclear family system is taking its roots slowly.
