why INDIA IS NOT ABLE TO PERFORM TO HER FULL POTENTIAL IN IRON AND STEEL PRODUCTION ? EXPLAIN ANY THREE REASONS
Answers
The history of steel-making in India can be traced back to 400 BC when the Greek emperors used to recruit Indian archers for their army who used arrows tipped with steel. Many more evidences are there of Indians’ perfect knowledge of steel-making long before the advent of Christ.
Though, India is an important iron and steel producing country in the world yet, we are not able to perform to our full potential largely due to the following reasons:
High costs and limited availability of coking coal
Lower productivity of labour
Irregular supply of energy and
Poor infrastructure.
Most of the steel plants have old machinery and technology.
Most of the Intergrated plants are more than 40 years old.
