When the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950, it repealed the IndianIndependence Act. India ceased to be a dominion of the British Crown and became a sovereign democratic republic. The date of 26 January was chosen to commemorate the Purna Swaraj declaration of independence of 1930

The constitution of India was signed and adopted in part on 26th Nov 1949 which is celebrated as law day... 

but all its provisions were adopted on 26th January 1950 in order to honour the pledge of poorna swaraj taken at the Lahore congress on 26th Jan 1930.this day 26th Jan is celebrated as republic day in India.
