The south west monsoon winds pick up moisture from Arabian sea and go towards eastern side of India. As the rainfall decreases from east to west, therefore winds blowing over western sides are dry because they shed their moisture in the eastern side of India.
Thus no rainfall occurs on western side. That's why deserts lie on the western part of India
