why Indian ocean's named after India?
justify your answer

AbhijithPrakash: he British did that. India was considered by them as the crown jewel of their empire, and one they never intended to let go of. Among the countries around the ocean, India was the most important. It also had the longest coastline, including the Bay of Bengal (Burma was part of India in those days) and the Arabian Sea (Pakistan too part of India). Add to that the island territories of Andaman & Nicobar, and Lakshadweep (known as Laccadive & Minicoy at that time).

Indian ocean is named after India because India lies in the centre of this ocean. Going back to 18th century many travellers came to this route for their transportation which helped India to become famous and established the Silk route in which India lies in the centre. also no other country has a long coastline on the Indian Ocean as India has and indeed it is India's eminent position in the Indian Ocean which justifies the name of ocean after it .
hope it helps
