South Indian Rivers are not navigable as because dams and canals are constructed on the river.
They flow swiftly over the plateaus and highlands.
The navigation test is very simple whether the river is usable as a route by the public, even in small craft such as kayaks, canoes and rafts.

Reasons :-
- The rivers are either very gentle in slope or very steep sloped
- They are not fit for water transportation
- most most of the rivers are utilised for hydroelectricity power i.e for generating electricity
- Dams are constructed on most of the rivers
