Internal migration does not change the total population size because it happens within the boundary of the country and when the final population of the country is calculated, they are included with the total population size. The kind of migration that does affect the population size of the country is emigration and immigration.
Explanation:
- Internal migration means migration from one place to the other within the boundaries of the country.
- It does not effect the population size of the country because when the final population of the country is calculated they are included in it.
- For example, large number of workers from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, etc move to the Southern states of India like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, etc. But when the population is counted they are included in the final data.
- But there are migrations that does effect the population size of the country, and these are emigration and immigration.
- Emigration is a process in which the people living in one country moves to other countries for the purpose of settling there. It decreases the size of population of the country.
- Whereas immigration is a process in which people belonging to different countries comes to live in another country. It increases the population size of the country.
- For example, in India large number of people leave the country to settle in countries like USA, Canada, UK, etc, this would be called as emigration.
- But people coming to India like the case of refugees from Bangladesh, and Myanmar would be called as immigration and it would increase the population size of the country.
