Why ionic compounds are usually hard crystalline solids?

Answer:

Ionic compounds are hard because the positive and negative ions are storgly attached to each other and difficult to seperate . The storng forces of attaraction between ions in the ionic compounds forms storng interlinked bonding which makes the ionic compound hard and require very high energy to break them .
