Iron loose their shine gradually because of rusting. When Iron comes in the contact of oxygen and moisture it starts rusting. This process is called rustification.

Answer: Due to corrosion

Explanation:-

Corrosion is the process of slow eating away of metal due to attack of atmospheric gases on the surface of metal resulting into formation of compounds such as oxides, sulfides , carbonates etc is called as corrosion.

Corrosion of iron is called as rusting. Rust is hydrated ferric oxide (Fe_2O_3.xH_2O).

Fe\righatarrow Fe^{2+}+2e^-

O_2+4H^++4e^-\rightarrow 2H_2O

4Fe^{2+}+O_2+4H_2O\rightarrow 2Fe_2O_3+8H^+

F2_2O_3+xH_2O\rightarrow Fe_2O_3.xH_2O

Thus iron loses electrons and get converted to rust and lose its shine.
