on 26 th January before the independence The Indian congress that was struggling for the freedom of India celebrated their first independence day as they declared complete independence or full swaraj. But we celebrate actual independence day on 15 August because on that day the Britishers gave the reins of Indian Government to India so it was known to be the independence day.It was then decided by Dr BR Ambedkar and the constituent assembly that the Constitution of India will be proposed on 26th to commemrate the memory of their independence day before the actual independence (when india was under the British rule but purna swaraj was declared) so Republic day is celebrated on 26 th of August as our Constitution was proposed on that day
