82 and half degree is selected as the standard meridian of india.

This longitude passes from mirzapur in uttar Pradesh.

The question arises why is it selected?

There are two criteria mentioned by the International time managing committee.
For being a standard meridian of any country, the longitude must pass those criteria.

The criteria are :-

1) the longitude must pass more or less from the centre of the country.

2) the longitude must be divisible by either 7 and half degree or 15 degrees.

The standard meridian of india follows both the rules.
Also, it is in the centre of the country.

This is the reason why 82.5 degree is selected as the standard meridian of the indian country.
