Explanation:
Because it passes the midway of India i.e., from Allahabad. To prevent the different timings across the country a standard meridian was formed so thatthe same time would be followed all over the country. Otherwise the people in Gujarat and arunachal Pradesh would have faced a time difference of two hours.

The time applicable all over India is known as Indian standard time .
Many longitudes pass through India from west to east.
From gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh there is time lag of 2 hrs.
So , to avoid the time gap of 2 hrs and the confusion caused in working , to have same time in whole of India ,the standard meridian(82^30)was chosen
