The meridians used to denote standard time of a country, are those longitudes which are exactly divisible by 15 degrees, and which passes through the centre of that country.

The standard meridian of India is 82.3 degree East longitude, passing through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh (which is almost the centre point of India).

Indian standard time is 5 hours and 30 minutes ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).
