Areas that are rich in resources, like the Northeastern U.S., tend to be densely populated. However, areas like the Sahara Desert, which have very little natural resources, are usually very sparsely populated. Speaking of the Sahara Desert, climate also affects population density.

A desert is less populated because there is not much rainfall in a desert, There is scarcity of water because of that it is difficult to live there..
No agriculture is possible in a desert because of the climatic conditions ...
No factories are build there , therefore people do not get livelihood there...
Overall people do not get more facilities than they get in plain areas...
