first order reactions are called first order bocause the rate of these type of reaction directly proprotional to the first order of concentration of the reactants present in the reaction medium. ... when a very less amount of reactant left, theorically reaction is still going on but a very very slower.

Basically in a first order reaction the rate of the reaction is directly proportional to the concentration of the reactant left .so as the reaction proceeds the concentration of the reactant goes on decreasing and rate becomes more slow as time passes hence it never comes to end. Moreover the time period of completion of first order reaction is infinity.
