See for some reactions, we need compounds to be anhydrate for reactions.This is because presence of moisture/water in/around it do not allow the desired results to come.Since in school and college labs we cannot control the humidity and moisture,we use some compounds which have great affinity towards water and can adsorb/absorb it fastly and easily.So CaCl2 is one such compound.Passing a gas through glass tube containing this compound will make that particular gas unhydrated.Note that we use unhydrated CaCl2 not hydrated CaCl2
