why is a large number of children and old age population considered a burden

our society has changed now.earlier old age persons and children were life of the people .people like living with them. due to increase materialism people start thinking them as burden as both didn't do work which can support their family economically. both are dependend on the other family member for their daily work. so some of the people thought so for them.but it is wrong.

as we are modernizing our duties and responsibilities toward relationship is seen as burden people are running behind fame property and money which is the reason of forgetting our ethics and culture that is respect towards parents and so they are left in drastic conditions in old age home rarely visiting them there
