The military regime is not a viable option to a democratic government because the people in most of the African countries are demanding governments who can represent them, a government which can resolve conflicts and which is accountable to its people.
Also a large number of factors has contributed to the demand of a competent government and they are poverty, illiteracy, underdevelopment, etc which is the legacy of authoritarian governments.
Explanation:
- There is a need for multiparty representatives governments in Africa because one party systems has ended up in being dictatorships and military regimes.
- The self advocating arguments that such one party governments give is allegedly based on the tradition of a single unchallenged chief.
- Their non belief in opposition parties.
- It also used the idea that democratic majority can only be shown through one party systems.
- And also on the alleged grounds of defending one's ethnic, linguistic or cultural backgrounds.
- But now the people are making loud and clear demands for a competent government which shall be based on competitive politics.
