Longitudinal waves are the waves in which the individual particle of the medium move in a direction of propagation of disturbance.
i.e. These are the waves in which the displacement of medium is in the same direction as the direction of propagation of the wave.
Longitudinal waves are mechanical in nature,just like sound waves.
The displacement of Sound waves is done just like longitudinal waves.
Mechanical waves are the waves that need a medium to travel/for propagation.
Sound is a mechanical wave because it can't be propagated in vacuum....
