because a glass slab is in the form of two prism ,, one prism inverted and one straight ,, this causes recombination of light ,, acc to Issac Newton when a prism is kept inverted to another prism the refraction by second prism is equal and opposite to that produced by first prism

Spectrum is formed by a prism but not by a glass slab because:
Glass slab is like two identical prisms kept in inverted directions hence there is recombination of spectrum and no spectrum is visible.
