Why is a turmeric stain on white shirt turns into red when it is washed with soap?

turmeric is an indicator which changes its yellow color into reddish brown when come in contact with solution of base.We know that soap solution is base and thus ,when turmeric stain is washed with soap a base turns reddish brown.
