why is a whiptail lizard referred to as parthenogenesis

Parthenogenesis is a method of reproduction in which an unfertilized egg cell can produce a new organism. This occurs naturally in some organisms like whiptail lizard. The egg cell by different methods restores the ploidy of the cell and develops into anew organism.
