  • During drought and other adverse conditions, ABA is formed in leaves, it brings about the closing of stomata to reduce the rate of transpiration. Thus, abscissic acid acts as antitranspirant.

  • ABA promotes senescence in leaves by causing loss of chlorophyll and decreasing rate of photosynthesis. ABA also inhibits the synthesis of RNA and proteins.

  • Abscissic acid enables the seeds to withstand under the conditions of water stress.
