Acceleration is the rate of velocity. Velocity is rate of distance travelled. Therefore

Velocity= Distance/Time

(Since unit of distance is metre and time is second)

Velocity= m/s

Acceleration= Velocity/time

(Velocity= m/s and time is second)

Acceleration= m/s/s

Acceleration=

 \frac{m}{s}  \times  \frac{1}{s}

Therefore, Acceleration=

 \frac{m}{ {s}^{2} }
