CH3COOH has 3 hydrogen atoms but it is still a weak acid as it can only dissociate 1 hydrogen atom

the rest 3 belong to methyl group and not carboxylic group

 Bonjour

Q- why is acetic acid called a weak acid though there are four hydrogen atoms in the molecule?

A-Reasons:

♧it does not ionized completely.

♧it produce less no. Of H+ ions on mixing with water than other acids.

♧it's melting point is only 293K.

♧it forms ice like flakes during winter season.

Xtra information:-

◇It is COOH hydrogen which makes it acidic.

◇Acetic acid is a weak acid, since it does not dissociate completely in water to its constituent ions.
