1. Fertile alluvial soils, adequate rainfall and enormous water resources in the Ganga Plains are conductive to agriculture.
2. Mild winters and suitable temperature in summer and the rainy season enable this region to grow a variety of Rabi-crops such as Wheat, gram, barley, some oilseeds, etc. in winter and a variety of Kharif crops like rice, maize, bajra, jowar, cotton, jute, some pulses and oilseeds, etc. in the rainy season.
3. For crops like sugar cane, wheat, etc. there are irrigation facilities through canals and tube-wells.
4. As a result, agriculture is very prosperous in the Ganga Plains. So, agriculture is the main occupation in the Ganga Plains.
