(i) Big and wide rivers are present there, due to which rail or road bridges over them are difficult and costly to construct. These rivers also get flooded frequency, due to which surface communication links are damaged.
(ii) This area has dissected relief features, preventing durable construction of rail and road links.
(iii) Dense forests in this region create many difficulties in construction of railway lines and roads.

1 ) North eastern part of the country is marked with the presence of big rivers where other means of transport cannot be laid.

2 ) It is marked with dissected relief that makes it impossible to access the area through other means of transport other than air.

3 ) The entire area is covered with dense forest that resists land movement.  This area is often hit by frequent floods. Air travel is thus required.  It has a long international frontier that requires quick response which is possible only through air transport.
