His reign marked the unification of north India after a long period. He was able to achieve it through courage, diplomacy and luck.( Last ruler who achieved this was Alauddin Khaliji but it was short lived).
He effected a sound administrative system( Mansabdari system), revenue system ( Dahshala system), making post of Vakil ( Chief Wazir) dispensable, introducing provincial administration where checks and balances were ensured. Few of these were improvements on past practices. This sound administration was main reason why succeeding Mughals were able to reign for such a long time.
He devised the concept of Sulh-i-Kul ( peace with all). He abolished Jijiyah tax and pilgrim tax. Curtailed the power of muslim clerics, and even had a bitter stint with them when they issued a Fatwa in his name.
He was of the view that every religion has element of truth in it. He was very inquisitive in this regard and hold discussions with different religious groups in his Ibadatkhana.
He widened the administrative class by introduction of Rajputs and other Hindus at high posts. Rajputs became rather partner in the empire.
He openly celebrated Holi, Diwali, Nauroz, used to wear a tika on his forehead on certain occasions etc. showing personal devotion in Sulh-i-kul.
Though he showed brutality in his dealings with Chittor and haughtiness while dealing with Mewar. Such instances are few and pros significantly outweighs cons.
