AC generator produces current which changes its direction after equal intervals of time whereas DC generator produces current which is unidirectional.
Transmission of current on long distances can result in lot of loss of electrical energy as the energy get transmitted into heat energy. Whereas in case of AC current the loss of electrical energy is less the wire gets less heated.
