When aluminium is exposed to the air, this overactive metal promptly reacts with the atmospheric oxygen to form aluminium oxide, which is a sticky natured compound of the same colour.

Thus, the aluminium protects itself from any corrosion by the formation of a layer of aluminium oxide over the entire metal surface and thus, aluminium is termed as a self-protecting metal.

HEY!!

✔Aluminium is called a self - protecting metal as aluminium reacts with oxygen and and forms aluminium oxide. Hence, an oxide layer will be formed and the reaction will be stopped.
