why is ammeter connected in series and volmeter in parallel​

Because ammeter is used to measure current flowing in a circuit .whereas voltmeter is used to measure potential difference across two points .that's why ammeter is connected in series whereas voltmeter is connected in parallel.also ammeter has negligible resistance whereas voltmeter has high resistance.
