Amoeba is able to change its shape bcoz of
pseudopodia (false feet). It helps amoeba to move in any direction to engulf the food. When it encounters water, pseudopodia helps in floating.

Amoeba basically changes its shape to engulf the food items and to move...... This flexibility of the cell membrane which helps in engulfing the food is knowwn as endocytosis ... These several finger like projections made by amoeba is known as psuedopodia........
