Why is an alcohol thermometer not used for measuring temperature of boiling water.

Alcohol thermometer are not used to measure the temp. of boiling water because the alcohol can react with water to give heat and as reaction of alcohol and heat is very exothermic reaction ,it can led to a burst . Hope so this helped you.

By the time alcohol reaches 212 degrees F, it has at least partly boiled away and is no longer accurate.

In extreme cases, all the alcohol might boil away, but as the alcohol boils, pressure builds up, which could be enough to raise the boiling point of alcohol above 212 degrees.

Either way, you’re not going to get a good reading, especially as alcohol thermometers are not calibrated to the boiling point.of water.
