The filament in the bulb is made up of tungsten . It glows in very high temperature. Now if we fill the bulb with air the filament will react with oxygen present in the air inside the bulb and filament will burn . So for no reaction to take place Argon or Nitrogen gas are filled as these are among the least reactive species .
