Why is anhydrous AlCl3 used as catalyst in several organic reactions?​

Answer :-

Anhydrous AlCl3acts as a lewis acid, thus it can accept electron to form intermediates and speed up the reaction.AlCl3 will lead to the formation of a carbocation which helps in the elctrophilic substitution reaction.

Because AlCl3 is very reactive it will increse the speed of reaction without any changes in itself.
