Our stomach produces hydrochloric acid which helps in digestion but sometimes the acid is produced in excess amount more than the requirement. This leads to acidity. So, to neutralise the excess acid we take antacid which contain a base. The base present in antacid neutralises the excess acid and thus relieves acidity.
