Why is armature resistance kept at maximum while starting a dc motor

As during start there is no back-emf, if rated voltage is applied across DC MOTOR, huge current will flow through armature circuit because armature resistance remains very small to avoid accountable copper loss. So, ... Armature current is directly proportional to torque. And torque is inversely proportional to speed.
