Australia and Newzealand have been nicknamed as kangaroo and kiwi respectively because these are the animals which are found only in that particular country and no where else.Kangaroo and kiwi cannot even adopt the atmospheric condition of other countries because they are not habituated with some different climate.Therefore these countries have been nick named with the animal which are found there.
