why is Bangladesh half an hour ahead of india
Answers
Answer:
Let us get this straight. Bangladesh standard time(BST) is technically UTC(+6:00). Indian standard time(IST) is usually UTC(+5:30) . So there is a 30 minute difference there. India nor Bangladesh observes DST(Day light saving) and therefore always have a 30 min gap.
Now let me get to you question. Time zones are based on the longitude where the country is. Here is a link for a more detailed context - Time zone
India is spread out in both length and breadth wise. So India spreads along two different time zones +UTC5:00 and UTC+6:00. But India wanted to go ahead with a same time throughout the whole country and therefore came up with UTC+5:30 which is the average of the above. Though this works fairly nicely for all the other parts of India it does not work well for the north eastern states. They actually tend to fall more likely into the new time zone of +UTC6:30. And as recently as 2014 Assam(one of the north eastern state started using a new time zone). India to get a second time zone
Bangladesh falls under the UTC+6:00 and they chose to have that as their time zone.
Here is the time zone layout updated by Aug 2015 and this will clearly show how different are the time zones between India and Bangladesh and also within India

Answer:
Bangladesh is half an hour ahead of India because sun rises half an hour ago in Bangladesh compared to the area of Indian standard time (IST). If IST was based on Assam, India and Bangladesh both would have the same time.
