i) Cryolite is a double fluoride of aluminium and soda. It was first used as an ore and later in the electrolysis of alumina as a solvent. The west coast of Greenland is the only place where it is found in large quantities. Now, of course, it can be produced synthetically.
(ii) Corundum is a native alumina (A1203), i.e., aluminium oxide. It is used as an abrasive.
