why is bengal called west bengal but it's location in the east

It's western part remained in India and called West Bengal, while it's eastern part joined Pakistan as East Bengal ( Later called east pakistan ) giving rise to present Bangladesh. Basically before independence there was only Bengal province.

IT IS VERY SIMPLE....
I think you know about divide and rule policy form by britishers
in this policy the britishers divide any state of country
so in past there are 2 bengals ataching each other
there name was east bengal i.e. now bangladesh and west bengal
when the britishers follow divide and rule policy they divided east bengal as an other country ( bangladesh )
thats why we say west bengal as it is to east of india ......
