It's all because of the fact that living cells need oxygen, and the body needs a good way to get the oxygen to those cells, which is why circulatory systems are important in all animals, and an especially large and complex circulatory system is important inlarge animals.

Blood is important for larger animals because it is involved in various metabolic activities of the body.

It includes:

  • It acts as agent of transportation. It is because; the energy obtained from the food at the end of digestion process is transported to other body parts through the blood stream.
  • The endocrine glands secrete hormone which reaches its target cell through the blood stream.
  • Blood is the carrier of oxygen. It is because blood is made up of hemoglobin to which oxygen has high binding affinity.
