Brinjal is a rather small plant that grows up to 1.5 m. Brinjal is classified as a herb because of its non-woody stem. Its simple leaves are oblong to oval, slightly lobed, with its underside a paler green than the upper surface.

Brinjal is a food that belongs to the vegetable family. Brinjal is not a herb. It needs to be grown and preserved with moisture.

While growing herbs water is needed but while preserving herbs, there is absence of water.

Thus due to this reason Brinjal is a vegetable and not a herb. Herbs are used for seasoning in foods. Whereas Brinjal is a food in itself.
