Why is burning by steam at 100°c is more painful than water at 100°c?

Answer:  Steam will produce more severe burns than boiling waterbecause steam has more heat energy than water due to its latent heat of vaporisation. Steam and boiling water can exist at varying temperatures but it is only correct to assume here that both are at the same temperature.

Steam will produce more severe burns because steam has extremely high latent heat which causes the burns. Boiling water has comparatively low latent heat so it does not produce much severe burns.
