Calcium is preferred over sodium to remove last traces of moisture from alcohol because calcium is normally hygroscopic therefore it is able to absorb traces of the moisture .

Sodium is normally deliquescent hence it is unable to remove the moisture very effectively.

Therefore due to this, calcium is preferred over sodium in the removal of the moisture.
